Logos. Literally.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." - Genesis 1:1

Created: bara' (bah-rah) [Heb]

"God created the heavens and the earth." This establishes one of the most important facts in life: the universe and mankind are not here by accident! They are here by the specific design and plan of God. This verse tells it like it is, that the created universe, with all its stars and planets, is the unique creation of God. This means that mankind and the universe are not here by some kind of cosmic accident. There is a purpose for your life, and there is a master plan behind the universe.

The word bara' means "to form", "to fashion", "to produce" or "to create". Originally, this verb carried the idea of carving or cutting out, not unlike the making of pottery and such-like. This suggests that creating is similar to sculpting. God is therefore portrayed as the Master Artist of all creation and the Great Sculptor who carved out the universe, the planets and mankind. Thus, bara' is a fitting word to describe both creating and bringing into existence something out of nothing, as well as forming something out of existing matter.

Although scientists have come up with the Big Bang Theory and other explanations for the creation of the universe, the Bible teaches us that God is the Creator of everything. We need to remember that the Bible is true regarding spiritual matters, but it is also true regarding the physical disciplines of our earthly world, like science, maths, history e.t.c. Thus, if the Bible teaches that God is the Creator of everything, that goes for the laws of science and everything humans think are the rules of existence. Our God cannot be explained away by some scientific theory, why, He created the laws of science! Our God is all powerful!

And you know what the best part is? We serve Him. What an honour indeed. What would your friends and relatives say if you told them you got accepted under the tutelage of a world-renowned professor of something? Well, we serve an omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent God! That alone, if anything, should give us energy and motivation for the day.

Hallelujah, and AMEN!
